Subject and Purpose:

The New Zealand Antarctic Institute referred to as Antarctica New Zealand (ANZ) and the Alfred-Wegener-Institut, Helmholtz Zentrum für Polar and Meeresforschung referred to as AWI, jointly referred to as the Participants recognise the mutual benefit to be gained through bilateral cooperative and collaborative efforts for their investigations in Antarctica.

Both Participants have common interests in environmental research in the Antarctic covering a broad range of topics such as, oceanography, atmospheric sciences, human impacts, biology and biogeochemistry, geophysics, glaciology and geology. The objective of this Arrangement is to formalise the working relationship in support of this new arrangement, with a view to identifying areas where the Participants can collaborate to develop and implement research and development programs and opportunities of mutual benefit.
