This Agreement ensures the preservation of Commonwealth war graves within Namibia. The Agreement also provides for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to have the status of a legal entity in Namibia, with the sole authority for the permanent care of the graves and memorials of the Commonwealth war dead. The Government of Namibia grants the Commission the free use of the relevant land, and undertakes that there will be no exhumation of remains except with the prior consent of the Commission. New Zealand is party to over 15 similar Agreements with other Governments.
