Treaty Summary:

Amendment to Article 1 EBRD.

In 1991 New Zealand ratified the Agreement Establishing the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and it is one of the 63 member states of the bank. The bank has the current goal of facilitating the transition toward open market economies and to incentivise private-sector investment in Central and Eastern Europe. These new amendments to the agreement will allow the bank to operate in North Africa and the Middle East, and to permit the use of special funds which will become eligible for investment in the new region as soon as 80 percent of the bank’s members have ratified the treaty changes.
