New Zealand is a Member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The ITU is an inter-governmental organisation under the auspices of the United Nations. It seeks to enable economic growth and social developments through ongoing advancement of telecomunnications and information networks. The Radio Regulations, commonly known as the International Radio Regulations (IRRs) in New Zealand, is a multilateral treaty of the ITU. It is incorporated into New Zealand's domestic legislation by reference in Schedule 1 of the Radiocommunications Act 1989.
